Why Does Apple Want DApp Browser Off Coinbase?
Apple may now pressure Coinbase to remove the DApp browser feature from its crypto wallet application after Google removed MetaMask from its Android app store.
In a Reddit post released on Dec. 28, the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase cautioned its users that it might be ordered to remove the DApp browser interface from its wallet app in compliance with Apple's app store policy.
The CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, spoke about the post noting that it was unfortunate that Apple was getting rid of the Dapps browser from the App Store. He also mentioned that this might be happening to other wallets, including Argent, MetaMask, and Trust. He stated that the issue was more significant than just Coinbase and seemed to be a threat to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Armstrong went on to suggest to users that they will need to ask Apple to allow these applications, as many developers and early adopters of cryptocurrency have millions of dollars invested in these financial apps.
Swift Battle Against Cryptocurrency Apple took action quickly after Google banned the wallet by Ethereum along with the MetaMask DApp browser from Google Play.
Both platforms have policies against mobile mining, and this is reportedly why the apps were removed. Google flatly rejected MetaMask's appeal to the decision finalizing the banning.
One cryptocurrency influencer Omar Bham stated that these bans are because Web3 is in direct competition with Apple and Google, and they will continue to censor these companies.
Another Google entity, YouTube started to censor user content on Dec. 23 after YouTubers began to speak out against the bans. Some video content was removed and not restored. It is well known that Google owns YouTube.
YouTube waited for additional days to restore more of the content, citing a review process error.
One cryptocurrency YouTuber verified the warnings placed on his account and talked about how other YouTubers had videos removed due to censorship. Many YouTubers turned to other platforms to voice their opinions about the bans.
Users can still access Dapps by using the Coinbase Wallet on their desktop computers through the WalletLink feature.
